Unlikely Heroes | Part 9 – David (August 9, 2026)

TODAY:

Unlikely Heroes | Part 9 – David: Underdog

BIG IDEA:

God shows HIS strength in our “weakness”

SCRIPTURES:

1 Samuel 15:22-23, 16:6-13, 17:4-11, 17:23-24, 17:32-51, 1 Timothy 4:10-14, 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

Q: What “Goliaths” have you faced in your life, or are facing right now?

Q: How do the Scriptures/concepts from this week help you grow as a disciple who loves God, loves people & serves the world (lives on incarnational mission) in everyday life?

Q: Based on these Scriptures, how can you move from unbelief to belief, from just knowing to actually doing in your life?

Be With Jesus / Love God (UP)...

Q: Do you agree or disagree with the phrase: “The bigger your understanding of God, the smaller your ‘Goliaths’ seem”.

Q: Read through the story of David & Goliath – how do you see a difference between how David sees his situations in perspective of God’s presence & power with him vs. others such as Saul, his brothers, etc.?

Become Like Jesus / Love People (IN)...

Q: Read 1 Timothy 4:10-14 & 2 Corinthians 12:9-10. How do you see the concept of formation in those passages? What can you learn & put into practice from them?

Do What Jesus Did / Serve the World (OUT)...

Q: Read 1 Samuel 16:7 & think about how God sees you. Now re-read it & think about how God sees those around you. How can you “look” at people differently based on this?

ACTION STEPS

1) Identify one “giant” that you’re facing & surrender it to God.

2) Use God’s words to Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 as a prayer to refocus your mind/heart as you deal with your perceived weaknesses & face your perceived giants.
