BIG IDEA:

Yahweh is the one true God, and He alone is worthy of our worship.

SCRIPTURES:

1 Kings 17-19, Psalm 86

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

Q: Have you ever trusted in something that appeared good, only to find out it wasn’t what you thought it would be?

Q: How do the Scriptures/concepts from this week help you grow as a disciple who loves God, loves people & serves the world (lives on incarnational mission) in everyday life?

Q: Based on these Scriptures, how can you move from unbelief to belief, from just knowing to actually doing in your life?

Be With Jesus / Love God (UP)...

Q: Read 1 Kings 18:16-40. What does this event teach us about God? What does it teach us about ourselves?

Q: How did Baal’s prophets frantic behavior contrast to Elijah’s calm behavior? What does this reveal about who they were choosing to worship?

Q: Does your heart ever feel divided between God and someone/something else? Like Israel, what is the danger in wavering back and forth with this?

Become Like Jesus / Love People (IN)...

Q: What qualities in Elijah would you like to emulate? What qualities would you like to avoid?

Q: How can we as Christians/church confront sin/idolatry in a way that draws people to Jesus rather than pushing them away?

Do What Jesus Did / Serve the World (OUT)...

Q: Who is someone in your life that may be far from God? Pray that the Lord may turn their hearts to Jesus. Trust that God loves them & may use you to reveal His love to them.

ACTION STEPS

1) Read & study Psalm 86 this week. Pray this prayer to God for your own life.

2) Ask: Where is my heart still divided between God & self/world?

3) Repent: Turn away from that idolatry, and turn your heart back to Jesus.
