TODAY:

Discipleshift | Part 7 – RULE of LIFE: Living Discipleship

BIG IDEA:

A Rule of Life is an intentional & tangible plan for living a God-arranged lifel

SCRIPTURES:

Matthew 4:19, Isaiah 28:16-17, Psalm 139:23-24, Luke 15:11-32

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

Q: Do you prefer to have a structure to your life or not? Why?

Q: How do the Scriptures/concepts from this week help you grow as a disciple who loves God, loves people & serves the world (lives on incarnational mission) in everyday life?

Q: Based on these Scriptures, how can you move from unbelief to belief, from just knowing to actually doing in your life?

Be With Jesus/ Love God (UP)...

Q: Read Luke 15:11-32 three times: 1st through perspective of prodigal son, 2nd through perspective of older brother, then 3rd through perspective of the father. Who do you most empathize with? Why?

Q: Read Isaiah 28:16-17. What does it mean for Jesus to be the Cornerstone, measuring line & plumb line of your life?

Become Like Jesus (Formation) / Love People (IN)...

Q: What habits & practices do you currently have (your current “Rule of Life”) that are leading you away from Jesus & the life He has designed you for & called you to?

Q: What are some specific practices that could help you grow in your faith & life?

Do What Jesus Did / Serve the World (OUT)...

Q: Think back to the older brother in the story in Luke. How can you learn from his mistakes? How can you develop the heart of the father who wanted nothing more than for people to be forgiven, reconciled & restored?

NOTES & QUOTES

"A disciple is someone who follows Jesus, is transformed by Jesus, and joins Jesus in what He's doing. Disciple = apprentice."

“We all already have and live by a Rule of Life.”

“Your system is perfectly designed to give you the results you are currently getting.”

“We intentionally design our lives to give Jesus free rein over our formation.” (John Mark Comer, “Practicing the Way”)

“Live a God-arranged life.” (Jules Glanzer)

“A Rule of Life if an act of defiance against the powers and principalities (of this world). (It’s) a way of staying true to your deepest desires: to be with Jesus, to let Him form you into a person of love, to do whatever God put you on earth to do. A way of refusing to waste your life.” (John Mark Comer, “Practicing the Way”)

ACTION STEPS

1) Develop your Rule of Life (have fun!)

2) Ask a friend for accountability & share how it goes
