Discipleshift | Part 1 – The Problem, Vision & Path (April 12, 2026)
TODAY:
Discipleshift | Part 1 – The Problem, Vision & Path
BIG IDEA:
A "disciple" is someone who follows Jesus, is transformed by Jesus, and joins Jesus in what He's doing. Disciple = Apprentice.
SCRIPTURES:
Matthew 4:19, John 15:1-8
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Q: How has “discipleship” been taught to you in the past? What are your thoughts on it?
Q: How are you feeling about going through a 7-week series on discipleship?
Q: How do the Scriptures/concepts from this week help you grow as a disciple who loves God, loves people & serves the world (lives on incarnational mission) in everyday life?
Q: Based on these Scriptures, how can you move from unbelief to belief, from just knowing to actually doing in your life?
Connect with God (UP)...
Q: Read Matthew 4:19. What do you think Jesus meant in Matthew 4 to “follow” Him? What does this look like today?
Q: Read John 15:1-8. What does it mean to “remain/abide” in Jesus?
Q: Why are these two passage so foundationalto being a disciple & engaging in discipleship?
Connect with Others(IN)...
Q: The statement was made that Jesus’ “I will make you” (formation) correlates with GH’s mission statement of “Love people”. How do formation and community go hand-in-hand?
Q: How does the discipleship “Road Map” help visualize & understand the GH mission of “Love God, love people & serve the world”?
Q: As we’ll see in coming weeks, formation is both an individual & community experience. How does Jesus use community to form us? Or another way of asking is, how can conflict within community be a tool for Jesus to form & transform us?
Connect with the World (OUT)...
Q: How do you see Jesus working in the world around you & how can you join Him? OR, what are some needs around you that Jesus might be inviting you to help with?
Q: Discipleship happens both inside (gather) AND outside (scatter) of the church. How can you practice discipleship outside of the church?
ACTION STEPS
1) Make a commitment/covenant to truly follow Jesus & to "be with" Him. Maybe this is for the first time, or maybe it's just a recommitment to truly follow Him with your whole life.
2) Ask Jesus & the Spirit what areas of your life He wants to form & transform. Don't worry about doing it all at once, but just ask Him to start showing you what areas need to be transformed.
3) Look around for what Jesus is doing and jump in with Him. If you need help seeing, look for areas of need around you.
